[Philmont] Amtrak

An advisor on a sister trek crew collected the packs the night before he
left so that they were not left behind and so that the contents did not
'change.'

I thought that that was a bit dictatorial but they were taking a large
passenger van and he packed it in advance, so now I see many advantages
to this method.

I guess it depends on which AMTRAK operator you talk to, I specifically
stated I was a advisor with a Boy Scout Troop going to PHILMONT near
Raton. I never had anyone question it in the past 2 trips on the train.

I emptied the fuel bottles on SAT, have been sitting out side in my
yard every since. Can smell NO FUMES at all. The stove are being
cleaned as we speak too.

THANKS to the other veteran train riders, I was starting to worry if I
had to mail ground. We check in on JULY 24, leave on the train next

WHEW.................

FINAL Individual pack check in my yard today. Found a few wanting to
bring deodorant and one thinking he needed to bring AXE body spray
(cologne), too many clothes too. It was time well spent to do it again.
Hope their packs stay packed until next SUN>

thanks for all of your help and advise.

I am traveling by Amtrak and do not see where they do not take stoves-
just no fuel. As long as the stoves are dry and empty.

I have done this twice with no problem. Anyone else have issues with
Amtrak????

I thought the restrictions were for Airline travel.

Thanks,
