The talk on this subject is beginning to resemble a debate on the pros and cons of external frame packs versus internal frame packs. The heated comments are becoming somewhat personal. Some love one and would not be caught dead using the other. Others have tried both and have settled on one. Others have and use both. There are no correct answers. I can offer pros and cons on both bladders and Nalgenes (or internal and external packs). It would just give me severe tired head to do so...
I would just re-emphasize that no matter how the crew carries their water, you (as the advisor) need to learn the drinking habits of the crew BEFORE YOU GET TO PHILMONT. Know which of the kids are water hogs and which of the kids you need to encourage to drink more. Train them to take care of their equipement (not just their canteens/bladders but every piece of gear they use).
Also, take your digital camera into logistics and take close up photos of the water boards BEFORE YOU HIKE. This bit of information will help you and others out on the trail.
Drinking more water while at work...
