[Philmont] Shooting myself in the foot

I took a plastic film bottle/container (you can ask the 1 hour photo lab for
one if you are a strictly digital person) and drilled a hole in the bottom
the same size as the drinking tube – around ¼ inch if memory serves. Then
took off the bite valve, ran the tube through the film container from the
outside in, then replaced the bite valve. When I’m finished drinking I can
slide the film container over the bite valve (and put the lid on if I’m
especially energetic). If I happen to be a bit careless where I sit down my
pack, my bite valve doesn’t drag in the dirt (or worse). I don’t know how
well it would work to keep the mini-bears from chewing on it though, but I
didn’t have any problems last summer.

Happy Trails,

Roy Fisher
