You guys and gals going to Philmont this summer as advisors are serving as
memory makers for the young people you accompany. Many of you have
already completed your treks and others are getting ready to depart for
Scouting's Paradise.
Last Sunday afternoon, my wife and I were at home. Linda was working on
scrapbooks for our four grandkids. I was relaxing and listening to the
radio. The doorbell rang. I went to the door and there were two young
men from our 1995 Philmont trek. Both of these Eagle Scouts are now in
their mid 20s and college graduates. One is employed by the State of
Texas and attending graduate school in his spare time. The other is
preparing to go to Iraq as a contractor. We spent about three hours
talking about where they had been and where they were going on their
journey through life. A good bit of time was spent talking about a very
wet Philmont trek in June of '95 and about several other high adventure
and summer camp trips in which we participated.
Last night, John LeBlanc and I spent some time on the phone discussing our
upcoming Autumn Adventure at Philmont. We also spent some time talking
about our trips to Philmont with young people. A couple of old former
"memory makers" doing our thing....
