I've suggested this on the list before and it's a very good option (IMHO, of course).
Find a soft garden kneeling pad and bring it along for a cushion to sit on. Don't get one of the hard foam types unless that's all you can find, but buy a soft, squishy one. Garden kneeling pads are probably 7" x 15" or so and weigh nothing. You can hook them onto your backpack and you won't even know it's there.
On our trip, those that brought kneeling pads to sit on might as well have had thrones fit for a king, they were in such demand. They sure make sitting on the logs and rocks a whole lot more comfortable. And again, with no weight and no bulk.

I just got back from my trek, and carried the three legged camping stool. (Ended up carrying my son's, he's small) In hindsight this is two pounds I could have done without. At the campsites there are log /stumps to sit on. I think next time I would carry some kind od pad to sit on, but that's it.

To re-open the discussion on chairs, a group that matched our itinerary for
a few days brought several different types of camp chairs on the trail.
The one they preferred was a 3-legged stool with two arms that held a lower
back crosspiece. Not sure of the brand, but it didn't look like it weighed
much and collapsed into a tubular shape that slipped into the backpack (or
strapped on the back) quite easily.
