[Philmont] Note about Guinn's comment about flags.

Guinn,
  Hope you had fun this summer on your trek, sounds great. Part of my sentiment this morning was that the US flag is overused and I think this leads to less respect, I'm pretty sure Andy Rooney did an editorial one night on 60 Minutes on this subject. For 70 years the strip that said "Boy Scouts of America" was good enough on our uniforms, never have figured out why they put the flag on the uniform but that is a subject that this gaggle of old goats probably can't address. I think a country's flag should be properly flown (agree with John's missive about hanging on packs) in a proud and respectful manner and not used as bunting/decoration on everything. Teaching respect for the flag would probably include not using it as decoration on packs - kids is kids and the trail and its gear just don't lend themselves to this lesson in my humble O. However, if a crew took that same Cub Scout den American flag and hoisted it when they reached camp each day that would be great.
   
  Aint't this country great! We get to moan and groan about this kind of stuff w/o fear of official retribution.
