1. What does "repackaging" food consist of? (combining ingredients, opening
boxes, etc)
Some people prefer to repackage their food supply after they pick up food to
reduce packaging and get rid of food items that they don't want. The process
is optional. But you can remove outer packaging from many foods, like cracker
boxes. Some crews like to take it to the extreme and remove almost all the
packaging. In addition, you can get rid of unwanted food (and maybe pick up
a little something extra!) in the swap box located at each commissary.

Dwight Stein, of the Philmont backcountry staff, advised at the Patriots' Path
Council Philmont training weekend in May that the new, all two-person packaging
of meals (as opposed to the former four-person packaging, with limited splitting
of meals into packages for two persons in crews with 9 or 10 members) also included
the elimination of some of the "excess" packaging. Guess we'll need reports
from the early crews as to how successful that effort was.
