bad treks at Philmont". Each one is a unique trip for the particular group
you are in, each opportunity is a dynamic that will make every persons trek
a unique personal experience.
It certainly would be heartbreaking to not go on the trek you thought you
had last March. You've planned and looked over many details in the planning
guide, Philmanac and other materials, now you may be handed an itinerary
when you arrive at Philmont. Keep a good positive attitude, challenge the
scouts skills and make it a positive experience. If nothing else everyone in
the crew will remember this year for having to go on a different trek
because of the great fire.
On another note; A question was asked about the Wilson Mesa fire, it is my
understanding it happened in the 1970's exactly which year I am not sure. I
hiked Wilson Mesa in 1966 I did not see the beautiful views looking north
that we see today, in a few years groups will lose that view and new ones
will arise. Nature takes a long time to heal itself.
