Re: [Philmont]: Apologies to the list

John,

Over the past months while sharing this party line, I've sensed lots of frustration
in you. Sometimes, it comes out in your commos; sometimes, I just sense it
intuitively. I'm so sorry, old man, that you're having to go through what you're
suffering. I wish you had found some way to share this with us, your list "family,"
before. It would have made lots of things make more sense. All us old fudds
definitely feel your pain and wish there was some way we could help other than just
to encourage you, thank you, and pray that God will look after fools, advisors, and
Philmont campers. Rub your Wood Badge beads a couple of times and remember what your
counselor tried to tell you and all of us.

I'm finishing my 21st year of trying to teach Scouts and am about to watch
caterpillars turn into butterflies high in the Sangre de Christos for the tenth time.
I've been lead advisor and assistant advisor and even "rent-an-advisor" twice for
crews from other troops; but never, ever, ever have I been in or seen a situation as
bad as that which you shared with Calvin. My hope is the kids will find a way to
make pies out of mud. They're pretty resilient, these aliens with no lungs. Maybe
they'll take over and find the magic on their own. It's so broken, there's no where
they can go but up.

That's where I hope you keep your chin, my hiking friend. Try smiling a lot. It'll
make 'em wonder if you're wise, happy, or just plain crazy. YIS.
