Re: [Philmont]: Trek Changes

I got an email from Philmont Logistics on June 7 with the official
announcement that the north area is closed. I emailed back a thank you note
and said we would still like to do as much of our trek as pssible, including
going up Baldy.

This was Logistic's reply, in total

"We will do our best to accomodate the changes that you requested.
Specific plans will be available for your trek when you arrive on the
Ranch."

I interpret this that you (we) will find out at Logistics what your Trek
Options area. If you check the daily fire report, the fire is still active,
so it would be hard to for Philmont to let you know about a Trek now.

We are 726, so your report after you return will help us out. Instead of
making us all wait that long, how about after you check in with Logistics on
your first day, you call someone who has access to this group, and let us
know what you find out? (Grin, as if you don't have anything to do). Have
fun on your trek.

I have a friend who backpacked through Yellowstone after the fire and he
said it wasn't pleasant - no birds, no shade and smelled of smoke. I doubt
there will be many Treks in the north county this summer.
