[Philmont]: GPS Planning

I plan on bringing my GPS (again) this year. However, in the past I have been able to plot our trek on the computer, then upload the waypoints and track to my GPS. I also printed daily maps out. Well, that isn't going to be practical this time around.
Anyone else thought about what pre-trip planning they are going to do? My thoughts at this time are to load the GPS with as many waypoints in the central/south that I think I will use, then lay out the track once I get there.

Please note that this is really for my own use (and enjoyment). The crew rarely uses my data and only occaisionally asks "how far" questions.
