Re: [Philmont]: Trek Changes

I read an e-mail from the Council here locally (NCAC) that Baldy is no
longer an option. This contradicts what I had heard earlier that they were
still going to try to keep the "big elements" in the majority of the treks.

It is probably all rumor anyway. I looked at the Treks 2002 book again last
night and I don't see how they can possibly avoid re-working every single
trek. It seems over half of the treks went north and were affected by the
fire(s). It just seems impossible to fairly reallocate 15 or so treks to
the lesser used portions of south and central Philmont. Seems like they
would have to take every trek and rework them to accommodate this type of
change. Also seems like this is going to have some severe pitfalls that
will require some serious tweaking all summer long.
