Re: [Philmont]: 50 miler award - doing the 7 hours before Philmont

The 50-Miler Award is basically self-administered. You need to meet the
three pre-requistes: A) Touring Camp (different camp every night) of at
least 5 days and nights length; B) Covering at least 50 miles by "sweat
equity" (backpacking, canoeing, biking); and C) doing 10 hours of trail
service. You fill out a 50-Miler Award application form, which is
available at any Council office. It's pretty trivial. After
completion, the form is "reviewed" by a designated official at Council
HQ's, who signs off on it (most of the time, they just sign it based on
your word). Once approved, you purchase and award the patches.

FWIW, I get the work and approval done ahead of time, so I can award the
50-Miler Awards (along with the Philmont Arrowheads) when we return
home, in front of the parents. Pre-Philmont Service Projects are good
Crew building exercises; we did our required time on Saturday, June
8th. I suggest you do the same if possible.

sary for the trail work or do we just show up at Philmont and provide them with details on what we did? I would be grateful for information from anyone who has gone through this.
