The ten essentials includes Extra Food on the list. I have our crew leader
make sure everyone carries some food each day at Philmont. This way if
someone were to get lost he or she would have some body fuel with them.
Carrying anything extra at Philmont is a waste of energy.

"I am leaving for Philmont Friday June 28. Page 23 in the 2002 itinerary
guide lists "extra food" as one of the Ten Essentials for Hikers. What
additional food are people bringing?
Also we will be taking itinerary #23. Any words of advice for this trek?
