I tried a chair kit in 2000 but experienced the problem you mention.
This time I am bringing a separate chair.
The comfort is worth the extra weight to me.
Saving the weight is not worth the risk of using a chair kit.

I was wondering how big a risk it would be to take a Thermarest chair to
Philmont, because food could fall on your sleeping pad while you ate, and
would then smell inside your tent. If anyone has experience w/ this, let me
know. Thanks
