The only current Trail Crew program at Philmont is the
Order of the Arrow Trail Crew. The fee is $100 for the
two week program. 2002 program dates are June 6-20, June
13-27, June 20-July 4, June 27-July 11, July 4-18 and
July 11-25. You can probably download an application
from the National OA web page <http://www.oa-bsa.org/>
or call Philmont at 505-376-2281 or e-mail them at
<philprog@cimarron.springercoop.com> to get one. Youths
interested in attending this summer should call the
National OA office to see which dates, if any, still
have openings for the summer of 2002.
The Roving Outdoor Conservation School (R.O.C.S.)
replaced the regular Philmont Trail Crew program a few
years back. It is a 21 days/nights program for Scouts
and Venturers who have an interest in conservation and
national resource management. The 2002 fee is $300.
Dates for the 2002 sessions include June 9-30, June
16-July 7, June 23-July 14, June 30-July 21, July 7-28,
July 14-Aug 4, July 21-Aug 11 and July 28-Aug 18. For an
application and to see which dates still have openings,
call or e-mail Philmont.
By the way, the contact person for each 2002 backpacking
expedition should have received an information sheet and
an application for each of Philmont's special summer
programs.
