GoLites stuff is good but very light weight and NOT ROBUST. Their clothing
and packs are for someone who really takes care of their gear. Their packs
are small and assume that all your gear is light weight and that you are
carrying a small load. therefore the suspension, etc. is minimal.
Some of their clothing is really nice and easy to take care of. A good light
weight pack for Scouts with some experience is the MountainSmith Auspix (sp?)
and the rest of the Mountain Light series. They are comfortable with loads
up to 35-40 lbs and have enough room (4200 cu in) to get by on a Philmont Trek
with a little careful planning.
The GoLite packs should only be considered by someone who can get their basic
load down to about 15 lbs plus food and water..
Take your gear in to a shop and try one out. Most places will let you load
up and walk around in the store with it on.
