[Philmont]: Tilley Hats

Woohoo - yay Tilley Hats!

I've been wearing my Tilley for 12 years now - and that includes two seasons
of canoeing for Northern Tier, countless canoe trips with my Scouts, every
day wear, backpacking trips, a trip to the UK - basically I wear it
everywhere.

Mine is the T3 (which I like to refer to as the "classic" Tilley design) -
and while wearing it I have never had a problem with sunburn, etc.

And the Guarantee is second to none - they say it will never wear out and to
put it in your will. Cleaning instructions are "give it hell." Mine just
started (after 11 years) to have a stitch start to go and when I went into
the Tilley store in Toronto I was greeted by Alex Tilley (the founder - who
likes hanging around his shops when he's not traveling) who took one look at
it and said "that shouldn't have happened" and handed me a new one as well
as letting me keep my old one because well a hat has a lot of memories. I
wore the old one last week while backpacking - the new one is still too
clean to get dirtied up yet.

I figure that at about $10 each for a cheap hat, my Tilley has more than
paid for itself by now. I tell you this: The Tilley hat is the best damn
outdoor hat in the world - and they're shorts aren't bad either - same
guarantee - except that you don't get a new pair if you outgrow them, which
is what's keeping me from buying another pair.

Okay - there's my rant on Tilley hats, gotta run now
