Circle 10 Council is operating a Wood Badge Course Aug. 18-23 at Philmont.
It is the WB for the 21st Century course and will NOT be offered at Zastro.
The majority of the course will be held at PTC and the camping portion
reportedly will be at Rocky Mountain Scout Camp.
Zastro is no longer a Wood Badge camp. Last summer, when I was on staff at
the only Philmont WB course, we held the entire course at Rocky Mountain
Scout Camp. We were supposed to do the camping or outdoor experience portion
of the course at Zastro. The week before the course began, we cleaned up
Zastro and removed all the cow plop from Gilwell Field, as well as scrubbing
all the latrines, etc. But then the fires came, and we were not allowed to
take the candidates to Zastro because Philmont was having to re-route treks
and needed the camp.
A few of us returned after the course was over just to see the place again,
and it already had been converted into a mountain biking camp. Brownsea was
covered with bikes, trees had been chopped down to make new campsites, and
the quartermaster shack had been converted. The "secret" trail that led you
from the parking area along the ridge and down into camp had been turned
into into something akin to a rock-lined boulevard, so there was no
opportunity for discovery.
At last viewing, the axe and log sundial remained at Gilwell, but it's
anyone's guess how long that will continue to exist.
To my knowledge, there will be only one WB course at Philmont this year, and
that is the Circle 10 course. It comes at a difficult time of year because
of kids starting back to school or heading off to college, but it is much
more convenient for the folks at Philmont because the staff no longer has to
deal with Wood Badger demands as they prepare for the onslaught of all the
trekkers.

I believe the course is filled, but you might be able to get on the waiting
list.
Good luck.
