Bruce,

Thanks for your comments. I do intend on wearing my rain pants for long
pants when needed for warmth or activities. I plan to use my sleep
clothes as hiking clothes after my others are cleaned and swap back and
forth three or so times during the trek. One of the one gallon zip
locks becomes my washing tub, without detergent of course, and then the
just washed / rinsed clothes, hopefully dried, become my sleeping
clothes for the next two days or so. There are very few items in my
pack that have only one use or function on the trail. I've thought
about going "commando" but I haven't proved that method on the trail so
I hesitate to do so at this stage.

My list is not for everyone but only offered as a guide to those
interested in new ideas or possibly saving a little weight. I'll turn
50 at Comanche Camp June 21st. That and section hikes along the AT has
made me start looking for ways to lighten my load and still be
comfortable during my backpacking trips.

During our first trek in '92 it rained and hailed each day but two. We
had over packed also and the wet clothes, with the extra water in our
packs made for a miserable climb over the Tooth. But as I look back all
I remember is how much fun it was.. Maybe I need to add some more
weight to my pack! Just kidding. Our packs have gotten lighter each
trip since '92.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Wayne
