Why we wear sleep clothes:
Personally, I wear a coolmax Tshirt and a pair of Umbro shorts. Nothing
that keeps me warm.
If you are warm enough in your sleeping bag without having to add warm
layers, geat. That is why we have sleeping bags. The most important
aspect to sleep clothes is that you are wearing something dry and
something that doesn't smell like dinner to a bear.
Since we are dealing with Scouts, emergencies are bound to happen at
night. Take for example in 2001, when the bear attacked a tent in the
middle of the night. Crew members had to get out and deal with the issue
immediately. The Ranger was beating the bear with a hiking stick and an
advisor was grabbing a big rock to pounce on the bear. I personally would
like to have something covering my body a little as oposed to jumping out
of the tent wearing a pair of briefs and that is it.
I can remember on one instance I had to get up to attend to a sick camper
in my crew. This is why I wear clothing to bed at night. If there is an
emergency, I want to be able to get out, may be just throw on a fleece and
then tend to it. You don't want to waste time getting dressed.
