We will take our own bear bags this year for the first time. Color coded for our use.

This is a good point to remember, or be prepared for. At many camps, particularly the stafed program camps, the number of bear bags and accompanying ropes borders on the ridiculous. It also makes it tough to identify your bear ropes in the low light, such as early in the am or when you have to make that last minute trip to the oops bag.

We always use the Philmont provide rope and bags, the seed bags are perfectly light and last year they had lightweight 3/8'' nylon ropes for the bags. We do carry a carabiner and a nylon bag for our oops bag and also one nylon/waterproof bag for the personal smellables.

Ita a good idea to mark your bear ropes with somehing like a bandanna, dirty sock, towel, duct tape or light colored ribbon. Just remeber no smellables, like the packaging form dinner!

  Enjoy
