15 years ago in NCAC, the claim was made (during H.A. training) that
boots are the single most forgotten "critical" item needed for Philmont.
That comment has been repeated many times since I first heard it as a
novice Advisor in 1988.
FWIW, members of my Crews have two options - wear the boots to the
airport, or pack them in your backpack while I or an Asst. Advisor
watch. We pack our van the night before we leave, so once the pack is
stowed, it's stowed. Yes we have a check-off list for boots.
Also FWIW, it "seems" rare that airline lose backpacks, esp. if all
backpacks are packed the same and therefore look more or less identical
(whether in plastic, seed bags, duffel bags, whatever). No so for small
ancillary duffels, however.
