Thanks, Jason, for the pull back to reality.

FWIW, drive to the hill above cattle headquarters and you will always get a
great signal and a view of the whole basecamp operation.

Subject: [Philmont]: RE: Cell Phones

Getting back to the subject of having a cell phone IN BASECAMP

There is a cell tower in Cimarron on highway 58 about 1/4 mile East of
where it runs into hwy 64 in town. It sits up on a hill. What companies
have service contracts with the owners of the tower is anyone's guess. I
tried asking some companies once but they told me they don't keep up with
that, hard to believe. A buddy of mine had a phone through Cellular
South, a regional company down here in MS. Cingular told me that their
phones work anywhere a Cell South phone does. Now the phone didn't work
everywhere in basecamp. Down at the house by the Protestant chapel
nothing, but up at the Ranger office it had a full digital signal.

Maybe the official Philmont people who watch this list should take the
initiative and get together a list of providers that are known to work
there in Cimarron.

Oh and by the way, I think cell phones in the back country are silly.
