Actually those "badminton" trophies were once used in the lumber yard that
is no longer in business in Cimarron. I am told that they were used to
burn wood scraps. You won't hear Rangers tell that they are trophies
anymore because the people of Cimarron took offense to it and asked us to
stop. The reason you get better reception by them is because it is close
to the cell tower :)
As to the rock thing, it is for the tooth of time. The Arrow head
formation is on Tooth ridge. If you are taking hwy 21 into Basecamp from
Cimarron, look for it. Once you see it it is easy to spot. Legend has it
that if you look over your left shoulder when you are leaving Philmont to
go home and you can see the formation, then you are destined to return to
Philmont.
The little jingle Rangers say for the tooth is "The Tooth of Time is an
igneous intursion of dacite porphyry formed in the Tertiary period some 22
to 40 million years ago today, happy birthday tooth of time". I'll leave
the current Rangers to tell the other tid bits of the bus tours for those
who haven't been yet. Don't want to ruin all the surprises.
