Phil Brown writes...

I ran into someone last night that was just a few days off the trail (Trek
11). <snip> He said this year his
little bottle of deet ran out quickly as the mosquitoes were very bad this
year....

Comment...

Mosquitoes? Ouch! Got back from our last shakedown hike earlier, and the
mosquitoes were fierce (not a surprise - rain every day from the beginning
of May, followed by a week of hot weather and no rain is a pretty good
recipe for a mosquitoes). But Tom Wills and I told our crews that
mosquitoes and bugs generally were not a problem at Philmont. Oh well, hope
they believe the rest of what we told them....

Details, please. Everywhere? Limited to certain camps or elevation ranges?

The first eight Patriots' Path crews left yesterday and arrive at Base Camp
tomorrow (630F), followed by eight more in the middle of the month (713F),
with my crew and Tom's at the end of the month (726P1 and P2). Nine months
of helping prepare those eighteen crews; now I can hardly wait. Hope to
meet some of you in person, on the trail.
