I have a crew going to Philmont a year from now. I'm already dealing
with parents who want to plan every single aspect of the trip before
we even have our first crew meeting.
I started reading this list over a year ago, and I wanted to learn
EVERYTHING! I wanted to train up my scouts so they knew it all too.
I have learned one very important thing reading this list.
Let Philmont Happen.
The philmont experience is just that... An experience, not something
that should be ruined by too much planning and pre-trek training.
We need to just be happy we can go, and enjoy the program. Give
the scouts enough knowledge to be safe, and have fun. Make sure
they know how to function as a team, make sure they can navigate,
make sure they can function as a team, make sure they have backpacking
basics down pat, and make sure they can function as a team.
I hope we can make that happen for next year.
In the mean time... Have fun....
