You probably mean Eagle Nest. About 24 miles west of Cimarron and a 30
minute or so drive. Get on Hwy 64 in Cimarron and travel west. There is
an Eagles Nest in NM too but it is about 5 hours from Cimarron.

As far as backcountry weather, it typically is different than base camp
(aka CHQ) which is at a lower elevation than much of the Philmont
property.
What to expect? Rain, hail, sleet, lightning, wind and maybe even some
snow in June.

On a typical summer day, there will be an afternoon shower which usually
doesn't last long. Along about mid-July, the "monsoon" season begins and
there is more rain until mid to late August. I believe someone (perhaps
Dr. Bob???) once explained the "monsoon" effect at Philmont.

A number of years ago, a crew from another local troop attended Philmont
with a mid July arrival date. When they returned, I asked the SM if the
crew had rain. He replied, "Only once...but it lasted ten days".
