Back 1967 when I went to Philmont for the first time, there was no such thing as phone cards, nationwide cell phones, etc. Likewise MasterCard (then Master Charge) and Visa (then BankAmericard) were not universally accepted. So calling home--collect--was a necessity if only to say "send money!"

For those of you who will be taking crews out to the ranch, please remind your scouts to call home as soon as they arrive at the Ranch.
