>From the father of one of our Philmont Rangers. He spoke to his son this
morning.
YiS,
-- Calvin H. Gray Scoutmaster, Troop 405 Associate Advisor, Venturing Crew 405 Georgetown, Texas I used to be an Owl (WM-62-2-98 @ Philmont) http://www.troop405.org/ ********* I asked him how it was going and he said, "Great." Really sounded like he's having the time of his life. Sunday was his first day off, and a group of them had gone into Taos to see the movie "Troy" and to eat. He really likes his Ranger Advisor/Trainer and his whole crew. They went out to Ponil last Tuesday morning for training, and then spent Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, in the backcountry. It's still getting down to about freezing at night, and he said there was 3-4 feet of undisturbed snow that they played in one afternoon coming down from Baldy. (I'm looking at my photo of Baldy Skyline on the credenza as I write this!) His crew's "service project" was to haul bags of concrete, big batteries, and electronic parts out to a "repeater tower" that is being constructed out from Ponil to improve staff communication in the north country. All the various Ranger crews hiked back into Ponil from their backcountry destinations on Saturday afternoon and they had a big barbecue (real food!) there. Got back to Base Camp about 10 o'clock Saturday night. He got your letters, and a note saying that his first paycheck (small) is waiting for him at the office, so life is good--real good--at Philmont. ------------------------------------------------------- Scouting E-mail Discussion Lists @ usscouts.org Subscribe/Unsubscribe at http://usscouts.org/lists/ Listserv Commands at http://usscouts.org/lists/lc.asp ------------------------------------------------------- Send listserv commands to: listserv@troop47.com Send postings to: philmont@troop47.com List FAQ found at: http://usscouts.org/lists/faq.asp List Administrator: philmont_owner@troop47.com ------------------------------------------------------- As you gather around this virtual campfire with fellow Scouts and Scouters, do your best to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. -------------------------------------------------------Received on Mon Jun 7 13:54:01 2004
