RE: [Philmont]: Short trek itineraries

Jim:

We had a 9 day short trek last year. We sent Philmont our top 5 program
preferences on our trek selection card, and they put together a program
that crammed in as many of those as possible.

Many short trek itineraries are put together after the crew checks in.
We were lucky; Philmont logistics sent us an e-mail a week before our
trek starting date, telling us where we were going to go. That let us
do a little research, and ask for a few 'tweaks" when we arrived (like
adding the Mexican dinner at Abreu, even though we weren't staying
there).

Our trek included "legs" from 4-5 regular itineraries, and covered just
over 50 miles. Unlike most conventional treks, we didn't have a layover
day, but we had one day where we only covered 2 miles between camps.

I looked through what I've been sent so far and have not found any
information on how "Short Treks" are determined. We have a 9 day trek
for
2005 and wonder how the itineraries are modified to accommodate our
crew?
