I ran into a hiker on the AT about 200 miles from completing the trail
wearing high top sneakers. This was in December. Said he started with
boots, had problems and switched to high top sneakers and they had worked
great for him. He just had to replace them several times as they did not
hold up as long as boots. Sneakers would not be my personal first choice,
but if someone can make 2,000 miles on the AT in them, I think a Philmont
trek would be possible.
