Jim,

>From the official TSA website:
Camp Stoves - Can travel as carry-on or checked luggage only if empty of all
fuel and cleaned such that vapors and residue are absent. Simply emptying
the fuel container is insufficient as flammable vapors remain.

>From this I would conclude that they have to be clean but it is not a felony
to carry a stove on an airplane if it is properly cleaned. I would still
ship.

Here's the link if you want to read more from the TSA website about camping
equipment:

IT IS A FELONY TO SHIP STOVES on any airplane. Some airports may let you get
through, but it is a felony. Even if there is no fuel container on the
stove, they are pulling them at Denver.

They now have a display at Denver International when going through security
and the top shelf is a stove and fuel bottle.

HOW CAN ANY OF YOUR SUGGEST THAT YOU HIDE A STOVE IN YOUR BACK PACK TO BEAT
THE SYSTEM. What are you teaching the youth in your care? IT IS OK TO
VIOLATE THE LAW AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT GET CAUGHT?
