AFter your trek, try to set aside some time to go to Cimmaron for Pizza and
ice cream.
The bus from PHILMONT drops you off right in front of the ice cream shop,
which ALSO has a great deal of wood badge patrol criter
items.................going to town for pizza and ice cream is a great
incentive to get your crew off the mountain early your last day.
Pizza down the street on the corner is great TOO. If you don't have time to
tour Waite Philips home BEFORE your trek, go to the scouting library where
you get the tickets and make a reservation for AFTER your trek. In 2003 we
almost missed going on the waite philips home tour. We got in on the LAST
tour of the day..........we were leaving philmont the next day.
Check what time base camp has lunch (1-2 pm last summer). EVERYTHING shuts
down for lunch.
On our final hiking day, We got to base camp by 11 am, cleaned and check in
our gear, cleaned up, and went to town for pizza and ice cream. Got back to
tour waite philips home at 4 pm, packed up, rested, and then went to the
closing campfire. Left the next day.
Have a great time those of you hiking philmont this summer.
