Those of you that "get back from Philmont" and instantly wish to get removed from the list, please think about the valuable information you gained from the people on the list while preparing for your trip. Before you resign, it would be real nice if you could give something back by commenting on your trip and/or sharing some insights or things you learned. There are lots of folks that did not or could not go this year that could gain some knowledge from your experience.

AMEN on the TONY'S !!! We too had Andrew from Baton Rouge and ever since we don't leave without Tony's. I have found it in Wegman's here in the Northeast.

1.) This board is a wealth of reminders about the little things. I advised a crew in 2002 and have two crews for 2005. I completely forgot about "compacting" trash. I remember the cereal boxes were great for this purpose. I saw a crew using duct tape on their trash. They carried two full rolls just for compacting trash. I thought it a bit extreme to carry that much extra "smellable." If anyone can give me reasonable logic for uber compacting trash with duct tape I am more that happy to mend my compacting technique.
2.) Don't forget your shaker of Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning. ( www.tonychachare.com ) An 8 oz shaker should be enough for a crew for an entire trek. I personally know a ranger from my home town of Baton Rouge that issues a shaker to each of his crews while cooking dinner the first day on the trail. But don't take a chance on getting Andy for your ranger, bring your own. If you're about to leave for your 2004 trek you may be in luck. There's a 800 number on the shaker I'm using to ensure I spell Chachare correctly, its 800-551-9066. An added bonus of calling is you'll get to hear the correct pronunciation of Chachere when they answer the phone! I promise I am not related to, or work for Mr. Chachare. But take my word for it, bring along a little Tonys and you won't be sorry.
