I see you have already gotten plenty of advice, but I will add one more
piece - don't forget to check out ebay. On any given day, if you enter
"internal backpack" you will get between 200 and 400 listings.
["External backpack" will get you about 50 listings.] The listings
range from garbage up to top-notch stuff. Many of the offerings are for
new or nearly new backpacks that will go for one fourth of their normal
value. Never underestimate the savings possible from yuppies who bought
a thousand bucks worth of gear and went twice.
