[Philmont]: Side Hikes

How do you do the side hikes? We will be on Trek 6 and we have a couple. Do
we get scouts to just bring rain gear, water and a first aid kit? Or are
there other things to take? Do you get just a couple of scouts to bring a
pack and load all the gear in these?

Do you generally still do these hikes in your boots, or can you do these
trails in tennis shoes because you no longer have full packs?

Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
