A lot depends on your itinerary.
Philmont labels different itineraries according to difficulty level.
Whatever the label associated with the itinerary you are considering, study
the different segments closely with regard to elevation changes.
A good itinerary at Philmont will be one which starts out with modest
challenges, allowing you to get adjusted to the altitude, and then moves
into more difficult challenges.
If you managed 14 miles over mountainous conditions I think you will do fine
at Philmont.
When you study your itinerary on a topo map estimate the elevation changes
that will occur and allow more hiking time for a segment that includes steep
grades. An exceptionally steep grade will obviously take more time to
traverse.
Different crews have different hiking styles at Philmont. Some enjoy a
really fast pace. Most set a measured pace that allows the crew to learn
from their early days on their trek, stay and work together as a crew and to
enjoy the scenery along the way.
I really recommend the measured pace approach.
Best wishes,
Joe Jansen
