Dr. Klein,

Are you the person mentioned in Wright/Feurtado's Advisor's Guide?? On page 30 they mention you do a shakedown to reduce weight for persons' in your crew. Do you have a list of suggested weight for items for pack?? If so could you please pass out a copy. Thanks!

Did you train for this, or do it cold turkey?

I doubt if anyone on this list could do 14 miles on one of the tougher
sections of the AT and not feel it three days later, but if you are
already in good backpacking shape (regular training) and feel this way,
your concerns are well founded. If you did it without any significant
training, well your body is just sending you a harsh lesson.

You may find my Philmont Challenge Index to be a useful tool. The "PCI"
is a formula that enables individual trekkers to determine <a priori>
how challenging a specific trek will be for themselves. It is posted on
a number of websites; e.g.,
