I'll echo other comments... trekking poles... and the Stairmaster!
I have two bad knees. The ACLs in both are snapped plus torn/worn
cartilage in both knees. I was very concerned so I talked with my
doctor. He basically said, if you prepare and exercise, you will be able
to make the final determination whether or not you can make it. I did
and I went, fulfilling my own life-long dream. And I have absolutely no
regrets.
Oh, sure, my knees where sore. But not as sore as my feet! :-) I also
rolled and sprained my ankle. The Stairmaster and flatlander prep hikes
don't condition you for that. I brought a wrap for my knees but didn't
need it once.
Prepare yourself and get ready to fulfill your dream (and but trekking
poles!)
