My younger son is a Philmont Ranger! He graduated from high school on
May 28, attended Project Grad May 29 from midnight to 6:00am and arrived
at Philmont on May 31. He applied rather late, so was very excited to
be accepted as a Ranger.
The only thing I have to report other than that is that cell phone
coverage must be better than it was in 2004 when he was on Rayado. He
called us right after he got off the bus from the airport and the
connection was great. He called me later that night from his tent and
the only time I had trouble hearing him was when he pulled the sleeping
bag over his head. He was cold!
In 2004, he couldn't call us on his cell phone until he got back on the
bus to go to the airport and they were a good distance from Cimarron.
We have Cingular.
