RE: [Philmont]: Creature Comfort

I struggled with packing the slinglight for awhile. Until I finally found a
workable combination I was considering not taking it. I use an internal
frame pack and keep some items that I may need quickly on the trail in the
pockets on the back. Strapping the slinglight there blocks these pockets.
And the headrest is hard to keep attached. Now I use the bottom straps on
my pack to loop through the end of the seat frame. That holds the bottom
nicely. I put the headrest upside down next to the pack. Then I added a
strap that loops from the sides of my pack (loops were already there to run
it through) and as I run the strap over the seat I loop around both the side
frame of the chair and the headrest frame on both sides. This holds it nice
and tight. The strap has a quick release buckle so I can easily take the
seat loose and get into the pockets on the back of my pack.

Man you have hit the nail on the head. This is the only thing we are
dealing with now on the slinglights. We have tried to stuff it between the
fold in the seat,, upside down or up side right... Other than just putting
it inside the pack it just doesn't ride well. We are still working on this
each trip. We had 3 kids not order the slinglights and when some one hopped
up out of the chair, their was a line to get into it. We are now going to
order more of them to fill out the crew. They did have a price increase
3-15. They worked with us on the freight. They are good people out there
in CA.

Those of you with slinglights, are you carrying the optional headrest?
It really adds to the comfort but I'm having trouble figuring out how
to conveniently transport it. The chair itself carries beautifully by
just buckling the sleeping bag straps at the bottom and the lid
closure straps at the top over its frame - can get it off and into
action quickly and easily at rest stops, and it carries tight with no
flapping or rattles and it doesn't interfere with pack access.
Clipping the headrest onto the frame results in a secure ride but it
sticks out and probably will interfere with the rain cover. Doing
anything else (that I've thought of) results in it riding loose and
rattling, or in considerably more inconvenience stowing it. I'd be
interested in what others are doing about it.

I tried the REI slinglight clone in the store the other day, it's not
bad but isn't as comfortable. Didn't look like it would be quite as
durable either. But it was certainly a lot more affordable.
