TAC:
My crew has been using a foam pad for sitting. Actually they call them "butt
pads" and are 1/4 sections cut from 2X2 closed cell foam pads (reference
Mohawk 2' x 2' Foam Linking Mats Item #: 168520 Model: RG552273 purchased
from Sam's Club or Lowes). For about $20.00, enough mats for 20 persons can
be cut.
Some of the crew also carry small pieces of tyvek or a poly bag as a "cover"
when sitting in the damp. The pads don't get you up off the ground, but they
do provide insulation from damp, cold, and sharp rocks. Also they allow one
to perch with relative comfort on top of said rocks!
At a few oz in weight, they are an easy carry. Most of the crew strap them
on the back of their packs for ready access.
