IMHO this is the time to make a stand but with the proper backup. I would
contact the contingent leader and another District/Council member who is in
the loop for Philmont and discuss the problem with them and then as a group go
talk to the parent and scout. Here are the rules and guidelines. No
comply-NO go. It is a health and safety issue for the scout. It is a moral and
welfare issue for the crew. It is also your sanity and your hard earned money
that is being spent not to mention the week or two off of work. I missed 2
1/2 days of Sea Base Out Island because a crew member withheld on his medical
form the fact that he had health issues as well as some other issues. NOT
FUN!!!! Bottom line is do not let one PITA scout and obnoxious parent ruin the
crews trip.
