The real problem here is not equipment, it is attitude. Anyone can make a week of summer camp. Philmont is an entirely different story. Ten days on the trail is a long time. If you look at the devotional guide that Philmont will give you (USE IT), about Day 4 on the trail is the devotion on forgiveness. Philmont put that particular devotion on that particular day for a reason. By this time in most crews, you are going to need to forgive someone and ask for forgiveness yourself. People are tired, sore and hurting and the trek is not even half way over. Day 3 and 4 are the days when most people who will leave their crews come off the trail. This young man needs to get his head screwed on tight right now. Ask yourself, "do I want to handle this problem now or on the the trail". On the trail is not the right answer.
