[Philmont]: Ham Radio At Philmont

Has anyone had experience operating handheld or small portable ham radios
during a trek at Philmont? I was knocking around this morning programming my
tri-band HT and noticed that there is a 2 meter amateur repeater listed on
147.340 at Angle Fire north of the ranch. So I'm wondering if anyone has ever
tried working 2m on the trail off that repeater or for that matter the back
country 146.520 frequency?

It might be fun to from one of the peaks and see what sort of skip out of the
ranch one could make. And if the repeater is reasonably accessible, it would
be worth the few ounces for the HT as an emergency commo means.
