cutting back on sodas and/or coffee should really be stressed !!! (adults
and scouts)

Remind parents/families to write a short note/card which the crew will pick
up when they get off the trail. A CALL home is good, but having a letter in
hand that a scout can read again and again is "priceless". Address is
listed in the Leader guidebook, I think

Go over travel rules/guidelines. On the train, give scouts an IN the SEAT
lights out. They get so excited on the train, they would be happy to wander
the train until the late hours. Tell scouts the sleeper cars are OFF
LIMITS.......trust me on this one. We had a incident in 2003, which ended
up with a scout going home right after we got TO Philmont. He stole a
sleeper for the night, and among other crew rule violations. My train trip
in 1999 had no problems at all.

For those taking the train -- Take earplugs, take snacks, plan your
meals/cost, take a jacket and pillow(it gets cold at night and the pillow
makes sleeping more comfortable.

I'm jealous of those going............hope to get a chance in
2007............

HAVE a great time.
