If you want to read about tales of mis-adventure (trips gone wrong, with a
touch of humor) there is a series of books with a title "No S**T there I
was...) Replace the ** if you do a search.

One story that I remember was about raining rattlesnakes - Two guys are
scaling a wall, lead guy is pulling himself up onto a ledge; looks at ledge
and finds it covered with rattlesnakes. He ducks and tells the 2nd guy. In
a moment of brilliance, 2nd guy tosses a rock on the ledge with the intent
of killing the snakes or causing them to move so 1st guy can remove his
hands off of ledge edge. Rock misses snakes, instead it scares the snakes
over the edge onto 1st guy...

I picked up one book at REI and it's also available at amazon
