Saturday, June 18 - The hike from Hades. Oops, I mean the hike to Clear Creek. It was a pretty long hike, or at least it seemed like it, and it was almost all along a creek, and we could not get out of the mosquitos. We ended up taking NO packs off breaks, because every time we stopped we were eaten alive. As we hiked you could often find 30 or 40 on one arm. I'm sure some of us swallowed some while we panted up the hills. We finally got there around lunch time (funny how that always seems to happen). Altitude 10,200, I can really feel it now. I get dizzy when I stand up after bending over to put in a tent stake. It also happened at Beaubien, but this is worse. I would be worried, but one of our adults is a doctor, and he's dizzy too. He says it's the altitude. Mosquitos hung around all day, only respite was if the breeze picked up, and of course it didn't. Blackpowder shooting, tomahawk throwing, etc., with tomahawk competition in the evening. Get the rules clear in
advance. (Whether to count individual sticks, or individual team wins). This camp had the best tasting advisor's coffee.
