Up by abut 5:15, had a bit more Ranger training to do (wilderness pledge). Got on the trail by about 7:45, up and across Fowler pass to Bear Caves (a trail camp). It was a long hike, but easier than the day before. Some pretty good down hills (followed by ups, of course) on this leg, the down hills will get the old folk's knees much more than the up hills will. My guess is that we went about 6 miles this day, got to camp about 12:15. Sometime after lunch, the guys went down to Crater Lake to do the logging events. THEY DIDN'T GET TO, BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T WEARING BOOTS OR LONG SLEEVED SHIRTS (hint, hint). There is creek water at Bear Caves, so drinking water can be purified. Also, a couple of us did baggie baths there, and used the baggie washing machine for our dirty clothes. Mosquitoes got bad after supper, so we went to our tents about 7:30, with still at least an hour before dark.
